Experiences at Rockwood
SWIM
Swimming is a highlight at Rockwood and we have various special swimming spots to choose from - whether you take a refreshing dip in the river or swim lengths of the dam or relax and soak away the day in one of our private rock pools.
HIKE
There are eleven kilometers of trails to explore on the farm.  These are all well sign-posted and accessible.  Hike to caves and around koppies, find Rock Art and witness breathtaking views of the valley.  Maps are available.
ROCK ART
Follow our map to sites of ancient rock art by the San people. Use Rockwood as your base to explore other Cederberg rock art sites. The Cederberg has more rock paintings per square kilometer, than anywhere else on earth.
Keen fishermen can try their hand/rod at catching some of the pesky Bass in our river and dams.  Help us eradicate this alien species!
FLORA AND FAUNA
A visit to Rockwood is a paradise for birders. With abundant gardens, cliffs and river, you will see a huge variety of birds, from seed eaters to predators.
Wildlife is also prolific, from common Rock Dassies to the elusive Cape Leopard. We have a troop of baboons that crosses the lawn in the early evening and Klipspringer can often be spotted on the Cliff Path. Guests can also see evidence of nocturnal animals, like the aardvark and caracal.
In terms of Flora, the Cederberg is a treasure trove of flowers and plants. Rockwood has a huge variety of plant life, including critically endangered varieties.
Checklists of birds and plants are available in each of our houses.
